Our
History
Northtown Books
opened its doors in Arcata in 1965 and became Humboldt County's
first locally owned Independent Bookstore. Inspired by the
Bay Area's great community bookstores City Lights and Codys,
Northtown Books has developed a politically progressive, intensely
regional and determinedly international feel. Over the years
the store has hosted such luminaries as Ray Carver, Jim Dodge,
Alexander Cockburn, Susie Bright, Jerry Martien and Freeman
House.
We maintain a stock
of close to 30,000 titles and 400 periodicals, with an emphasis
on literary fiction, children's books, travel guides and
essays, and local interest books. We offer 20% off the current
Northern California Independent Bestsellers list hardcovers,
and always have a large selection of Daedalus remainders
and sale books on hand. Special orders of books in print
in the US have high priority, with our distributors delivering
in as few as 2-3 days. We will not add any postage amount
to your order.
Being one of the
northernmost outposts of the Northern California Independent
Booksellers Association, we intend to continue the good
fight against corporate control of your access to books.
We are committed to stocking interesting books that sell
as well as the interesting ones that don't.
Thanks again for
buying so many good books year after year.
