Poetry Reading with Jerry Martien
Jerry Martien will read and sign copies of a new book of poems, Earth Tickets, at Northtown Books on Friday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
The book collects poems from the twenty years the author lived in the little village of Manila, caring for his aged mother in her last years, working to preserve coastal dunes and forests, supporting himself as a carpenter and writing teacher.
Earth Tickets brings together poems of protest and mourning and celebration, work that has been widely reprinted—such as “Salvage This”—and read and recorded from San Francisco to Sitka as well as in local venues over the past three decades.
The book was produced at Bug Press in Arcata, in a small edition intended chiefly for Humboldt County readers.
